The Role
Really enjoyed my week at BBC Plymouth, was very happy going in to work every day.
I felt like they felt very comfortable with me being there, and wanted to help me in any way possible.
I had my own personal tutor who I could go to for support and/or to ask questions. This was very reassuring.
There were very few occasions where I was bored. I had a set schedule of work each day which wasn't too much.
I wrote two news stories for the web and on one occasion I was sent out to do vox pops for radio. I thoroughly enjoyed this because I felt useful to them.
This placement gave me a lot of confidence which is extremely important in the industry and something I will have for life. I learnt so much about news television and how a show is constructed. I also learnt about the different roles each team member plays.
The Company
A good balance of male to female staff and varied ages too. It really felt like they were a strong team that worked hard together. Amongst the stress and pressure of the busy newsroom they could still have a laugh which made me feel very comfortable.
The online application is fairly straightforward and they got back to me quite quickly. The actual week was really well organised as I was given a timetable with everything I would be doing during the week.
They invested a lot of time in training me in each area of the newsroom. This included online writing, planning, radio, interviewing and promotions.
If I was offered a job at BBC Plymouth I would definitely snap it up. It would be a lovely environment to work in and I imagine you would make some really good friends there too.
