The Role
I really enjoyed the work I was doing during the internship. My team tried hard to make sure I got a wide variety of work so I could get a good understanding of what would be involved in the graduate scheme.
I definitely felt valued by the team and eveyone was great about giving positive feedback as well as development points.
During the internship I was allocated a 'buddy' who was a recent graduate, as well as a more senior People Manager. My buddy was so helpful when I had, what felt like, stupid questions and my People Manager was also very approachable. I had 3 meeting with him over 6 weeks to discuss my progress.
My team were very good at making sure I had enough work to do, but always checked I had the capacity to take more on. They were very good about clearly letting me know what deadlines I had to meet. There was only one day in my final week when I didn't have much to do but even then there was lots of online training which I could work through.
I was pleasantly surprised about how much responsibility I was given during the internship. I drafted reports and carried out calculation work which were then checked by a Manager.
I gained a lot of confidence during the application process and the internship and learned a lot about working in such a professional environment. My Excel skills were dramatically improved and some of the calculations I learned will be useful in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly while still being professional. My team and I went out for lunch during my first week as well as on my last day so I felt very welcome.
We had residential training at the start of the internship which was useful and broke us into the office environment more gently. When I was in the office, I felt like colleagues knew about the internship process so knew how much work they could give me.
Like I said above, the residential training was really useful. When I was in the office, if someone was giving me work, they were happy to spend time breifing me thoroughly on it and very happy to answer questions.

The Culture
The other interns were great and we met for lunch most days and it was nice to hear how they were getting on. We went out for drinks after work a couple of times during the internship.
Average
There was the opportunity to play hockey or football with colleagues but I don't play either so unfortunately there wasn't for me.
