The Role
I really enjoyed it - they were easily the best firm that I interned at!
Although the scheme was challenging, everyone was very welcoming and I genuinely felt like I was part of the teams I was working with. Coupled with this I was given the opportunity to get involved with 'real' work and I felt the contributions that I made were valued.
Everyone at Linklaters was very supportive. Even when they were busy, my supervisors were always happy to answer my questions.
Because the scheme took place towards the end of August, some departments were fairly quiet at times. On the whole however I was able to get involved in a broad range of work.
Owing to the technical and high value nature of much of the work that Linklaters carries out, obviously there was only so much responsibility that my supervisors could give me as a vacation scheme student! Having said this, at no point did they shy away from giving me challenging and important assignments.
I feel that my experience at Linklaters gave me a terriffic insight into what it's like to work in the City as well as the opportunity to really hone my organisational and team working skills. It was also great to feel that I was finally putting my law degree to use!
The Company
The general atmosphere was really friendly and there were certainly a number of fun moments. That said, there were other times when people were clearly under pressure.
Communication was generally good and the HR team running the scheme was lovely. There were times when I wasn't sure where I was supposed to be and when, but this was partly my fault!
There were a lot of training and development sessions scheduled during the course of the scheme and we were given the opportunity to meet with a number of senior figures within the firm.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I received a training contract offer from the firm a few days after the end of the scheme.
The Culture
We were quite a close knit group and everyone was really sociable.
Accommodation and socialising in London are very expensive!
There are plenty of bars and pubs within walking distance of Linklaters' offices.
There were a number of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, however the fact that working hours varied substantially from day to day often precluded this.
