The Role
My experience with Accenture was absolutely brilliant. I was involved in 4 projects across Financial Services, Telecommunications and High Tech and Banking. Out of the 12 months of my placement I worked 8 based in London, 3 on a project in Tanzania (I was based there) and 1 in Luxembourg. Talk about diversified experience....
All the teams I worked with genuinely appreciated my work. After overcoming the steep learning curve associated with every new assignment I was given interesting and challenging work, directly linked to the project deliverables.
Everybody was exceptionally friendly and supportive. The internal culture promotes self-improvement (i.e. figure it out by yourself), which I find to be the best approach to learning. However, my colleagues (even Managers and Senior Managers) were always ready to help, answer questions and provide guidance.
Personally, I was really busy every day. However, this was not because I was being given impossible amounts of work but because I was being always proactive in trying to support my team and take some work off their shoulders which was always genuinely appreciated by everybody.
Similarly to computer games, the better you get the more difficult the game becomes. In other words, you are not given a managing position from the offset but as/if you consistently do your best and exceed expectations in whatever you are given, your responsibilities grow.
I believe the soft skills I acquired during my placement such as presentation, argumentation, research, data analysis, organisational, project management, and most importantly professionalism will serve me for life and definitely enhance my employability in the future
The Company
People are always focused on their work but the overall atmosphere was warm and friendly. Everybody is open for a quick chat.
I haven't faced any difficulties or issues. Everything regarding the placement was communicated in due time by HR to allow for a seamless process.
There are a number of learning resources within the company. However, there is no specific individual training planned for interns. It is possible for you to be sent to a specialised (and paid) course in something but this depends on the project.
