The Role
I had a fantastic six weeks working at Grant Thornton. I really felt that I was a valued member of the team and the work was interesting because it was real. I also had a great time meeting and socialising with the other interns.
I genuinely felt that I was a useful part of the team during my internship. People were always happy to answer my questions and I was given real client work to complete on my own.
My manager was very supportive anf regularly checked that I was happy with the amount of work that I had been given and that I was experiencing the types of worked that I wanted.
I was very busy during my placement but people often checked that I wasn't feeling overwhelmed by my work. Personally I was very happy to busy as it meant I never got bored.
I was given real client work to complete on my own and I also regularly contacted clients.
The two day presentation training course which we attended at Bradenham Manor was fantastic. Everyone really developed their presentation skills and overcame theire fear of public speaking. This will be very useful when I am giving presentations at uni next year.
The Company
I was surprised at how laid back the atmosphere was in the office. The open plan setting meant that it was a very friendly place but the fact that the managers and partners are also on the floor means that work still gets done!
The internship was very organised. We were given a booklet on day one which included a timetable and details of all the social events and training that we were be doing. There were a wide variety of activities arranged including the JP Morgan Challenge Run (optional!), the presentation training course and "Lunch and Learn" sessions to help us learn about other departments in the company.
The two day presentation training course was brilliant.

Company Parties/Events
At the end of my placement, following a manager and partner interview, I was lucky enough to be offered a graduate position which I am going to accept.
The Culture
I was always invited along to social events such as after-work drinks with my colleagues. Many events were organised for the interns and we also organised some of our own get-togethers.
London is an expensive place to live but I was lucky enough to be able to stay with a relative during my internship. Eating out/socialising was fairly expensive but not that much more than Bristol.
London - enough said!
I took part in the JP Morgan Challenge - a charity run. We also fund-raised for a Corporate Responsibility Day where, along with the national interns, we did gardening and mural painting at a local school. And, we had the presentation training at Bradenham.
