The Role
I really enjoyed my placement, everyone was really helpful and nice. I was only in the office a few days, being out at clients site taking part in an audit was great experience. Each client was different so the work was always varied and I learnt a lot in 6 weeks.
Everyone was really nice to me in the office and when out on-site. Its not scary to ask questions and everyone is really helpful.
I was assigned a counselling manager and a buddy who were great. I could always ask them if I needed help with anything. There are also many other people around the office who can help you, I usually just asked who I was sitting next to in the office or who I was out on-site with.
I was always busy and was out on-site the majority of the time. On the rare occasion that I didnt have anything to do there was always my individual case study or group project to be doing. If I was in the office, there were always plenty of jobs to do!
You are gradually given more responsibility over the 6 weeks. I was usually responsible for a few sections of the audit which were reviewed at the end by the manager. You are responsible for interacting with the clients when you are out on-site.
I study Accounting and Finance and seeing how an audit actually works will definately help with my studies next year.
The Company
The little time that I did spend in the office was good however it was a little quiet. It is an open plan office which is nice.
The first week was in London with all the other interns from around the country which was great to get to know everyone. The next 5 weeks were spent in your regional office and the final 2 days were back in London for a CSR activity and group project presentation. It was really well organised, I knew exactly where I needed to be.
We spent the first week training in London which was very useful. You also get constant feedback throughout your placement and have an appraisal booklet which is completed by a senior/manager after you complete each job
Company Parties/Events
I will definately consider a graduate career with BDO, I really enjoyed the internship programme and BDO seems the ideal place to start my career and gain the ACA qualification.
The Culture
All the interns in the first week got on really well together, we went out for dinner every night.
Epsom is near London so fairly expensive however I live here so im used to it!
Epsom has some nice restaurants and pubs however there are no decent nightclubs. However its not far from London!
There was a football tournament weekend in Birmingham and I think there are other sports events you can get involved in too. People from the Epsom office also go out on the first friday of each month for drinks. There is also a summer party this year. There are plenty of things to get involved with!
