The Role
The work was both challenging, rewarding and intellectually stimulating. I was lucky enough to enjoy the variety of tasks I was given.
Everyone was welcoming and supportive and the general atmosphere is one of relaxed professionalism.
I had 2 managers during my time who were both fantastic motivators and great mentors for my development.
The work flow was weekly-cyclical, with some days typically busier than others. Working hours are very sociable.
I could see the impact of my work being felt in key decisions being made throughout the company and I contributed to a number of critical meetings and pieces of work.
I have learnt a vast amount about effective business, energy trading and technical analysis since leaving university that has given me a fantastic foundation for further academic development. My skills in critical programs such as Excel have been drawn upon and improved.
The Company
Business environment was one of relaxed professionalism.
I was immediately thrown into interesting and challenging work that required my technical and soft skills. Frequent development/appraisal meetings provided feedback on my performance. All IT and Operational Systems were up and running when I arrived.
The company looked out for my best interests from Day One and tailored made my training and development to balance the skills I already had with those I needed to develop. I had a series of formal training course in both technical (individual commodity markets, derivative risk management, Advanced Excel) and soft (business writing, presentation) skills

I've continued working with them since university and have every intention of staying for the long haul.
The Culture
The after-work drinks are there for you if you want them but there's absolutely no obligation to go, which is a nice balance.
Living in London is expensive, though working in Victoria means a much wider area is within commutable distance thanks to the outstanding train links. After-work drinks in Victoria are around average for London (~£3.50 a pint).
Victoria itself is pretty quiet, but a 5-10 minute walk takes you into Green Park/Mayfair area.
There's a EDF Trading football team and an annual 5.6km run in Battersea Park.
