The Role
Placement was very enjoyable! Could not have asked to work in a more welcoming and interesting environment.
Everybody in the office was very welcoming and took time to speak to us. Despite being there for only 8 weeks we were treated as any other team member might be.
Managment were very helpful and always gald to answer any questions we might have. Initially it did feel a little as though we had been thrown straight in at the deep end and were just just number crunching meaningless data. It would have been nice to have had a more sufficient explanation of what these numbers represented in real world terms at project start. Really a time constraint issue in that we had to start working with the data right away in order to finish on schedule.
Very! Continually manipulating numbers in an attmept to improve the model.
We were given a lot of responsibility during the placement and we were certainly made to feel what we were working on was valuable to National Grid.
The work we were doing was really data analysis and not particularly related to our engineering degrees. However, whilst there was not so much gained in terms of engineering knowledge, new skills were gained in terms of software manipulation and working with large data sets - something I would not normally have the oppurtunity to work on. I was made much more aware of the importance of presentation skills and feel mine are now improved.
The Company
Everyone seemed very friendly and approachable.
Felt the company went out of its way to make sure we had interesting activities to do. The seminar hosted by national grid was excellent. More relevant trips to the project would have been nice as our particular group went on none!
Graduate scheme looks excellent ad there were plenty of graduate students to ask questions to.
The Culture
Social dynamic amongst fellow students was excellent!
