The Role
I quite enjoyed my placement, though at times there was some quite repetitive work which was obviously less interesting.
As there were a lot of interns working at the site I was at there were lots of social events outside of work time and also long lunch breaks gave the opportunity to sit and discuss work or other things over lunch. The peer reviews conducted at the end of the placements really showed us how the work we'd done was valued by the rest of the staff and company.
I was given lots of support by my manager and another colleague who'd worked on the same data analysis method. I always felt like I could approach either of them at any time with any problems I had and what the next stages of the project should be.
To start with it seemed like there was little work to do as the data I needed hadn't been given to us yet, but towards the middle and end there was a good amount and I was busy throughout the working day, and only had to stay late in the last week to finish a presentation for the next day.
I wasn't given a great deal of responsibility as I was just performing data analysis on data that other people had collected and the method and what data to be analysed was quite limited by other factors.
The placement was very useful in gaining research skills and in helping me decide on my future career and study plans.
The Company
The other member of staff and interns in my office were all very friendly and welcoming, and always willing to talk about mine or their work/ University/career advice/ etc
The internship was very well organised, from start to finish I always knew who to go to with which problems and there was help available for all aspects such as finding accommodation. There was also lots of support for interns, such as cycling advice, and regular invitations to the pub!
Quite a lot of time initially was spent by other members of staff training us up of various company policies, literature research, etc. And the placement finished with a presentation and report that had to be of a high standard, so help was given with these that allowed me to develop my skills in those areas.

Company Parties/Events
They are an excellent company who I may wish to work for in the future, but currently I wish to undertake further studies before finding a job.
The Culture
There was an excellent social scene, regular invitations to the pub, a summer BBQ party one weekend and lots of nights out and other events organised with the other interns.
The area is generally quite expensive to go out in, but is very compact so most transport is by cycling which makes it cheaper.
Nightlife in Cambridge isn't great, but from going to University there I already knew this! Although we still did have several fun nights out.
There were quite a few, organised by different people, though sometimes the interns would be limited in being able to get to them due to our lack of cars.
