The Role
The placement was very well structured and organised so I knew where I would be each day and who I would be working with. It was good to have such a variety of tasks and pieces of work to get involved in and there wasn't ever a moment where I would be bored with no work to do.
My colleagues were very helpful in all aspects of work and were more than willing to direct me where necessary. Everyone was friendly and I felt like I formed part of the team well.
By setting objectives and aims at the start of the internship this gave me an opportunity to meet these particular objectives and have something to work towards. My manager was able to have a meeting with me half way through the internship to discuss how I was getting on with the role and if anything needed to be changed or improved.
There was just the right amount of work involved. At times it was busy but this meant that I had something to continue with all the time.
The work I was doing counted towards real life projects and my hours were chargeable meaning I had more responsibility than just doing work which never got put to any use.
The skills ascertained through the placement will help in both studies as well as through my career. Being able to hold presentations, be in team meetings and offer my thoughts about particular issues gave me confidence and improved communication skills which I can take with me into the future.
The Company
There was a good, relaxed atmosphere. It was never too quiet to say anything and people were very friendly and often willing to talk about things other than work.
Considering there was a schedule put in place for when I started my internship, it was very well organised. The induction process was great also and it gave everyone a chance to see and meet other interns and build networks. Overall it was a very well thought out internship.
There were several online courses which we had to complete through the internship. As well as this if we wanted to take part in other training or development areas then I believe we could have taken advantage of more opportunities.
