    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic place to work. I was placed in the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Unit, and I was given exposure directly to the policy makers and their advisers. This was a fantastic experience, and I gained a huge amount in terms of knowledge and experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I put in a lot of hard work over my placement, but it was worth it as I felt very appreciated in my role and many members made a point of letting me know their appreciation. I was given fantastic support by my line manager and members of my team as well.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • See above!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite often either too bored or too busy - the work would come in streams and was not even. Nobody was at fault for this, it simply reflected the demand for my help at any given time.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a great deal of responsibility. Within my second week I had been given the responsibility of chairing a meeting and circulating a summarised note to members of the MPC.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As an economics student the material I learned is directly relevant to my degree. Similarly, the Excel skills I learned will come in very handy for graduate jobs.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At times a little quiet.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A 5-week transition period with your predecessor helped a great deal in terms of training.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Many thousands of pounds spent on my training courses!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • You have to re-apply to the graduate scheme - there is no direct offer system given to placement students. Although this experience will definitely help, it is by no means a guarantee of a graduate placement and you must apply with all the others.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The placement students were very close and socialised regularly. I will definitely keep in touch with several of them.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Great social scene in central London but it didn't come cheap!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Central London, baby!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Sports teams in particular.

    4/5
