The Role
Fantastic place to work. I was placed in the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Unit, and I was given exposure directly to the policy makers and their advisers. This was a fantastic experience, and I gained a huge amount in terms of knowledge and experience.
I put in a lot of hard work over my placement, but it was worth it as I felt very appreciated in my role and many members made a point of letting me know their appreciation. I was given fantastic support by my line manager and members of my team as well.
See above!
I was quite often either too bored or too busy - the work would come in streams and was not even. Nobody was at fault for this, it simply reflected the demand for my help at any given time.
I was given a great deal of responsibility. Within my second week I had been given the responsibility of chairing a meeting and circulating a summarised note to members of the MPC.
As an economics student the material I learned is directly relevant to my degree. Similarly, the Excel skills I learned will come in very handy for graduate jobs.
The Company
At times a little quiet.
A 5-week transition period with your predecessor helped a great deal in terms of training.
Many thousands of pounds spent on my training courses!
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
You have to re-apply to the graduate scheme - there is no direct offer system given to placement students. Although this experience will definitely help, it is by no means a guarantee of a graduate placement and you must apply with all the others.
The Culture
The placement students were very close and socialised regularly. I will definitely keep in touch with several of them.
Great social scene in central London but it didn't come cheap!
Central London, baby!
Sports teams in particular.
