The Role
Would definitely recommend the vac scheme to others seeking an insight into the firm.
Made to feel like another member of the team. Felt that my contributions were actually valued by the fee earners.
Fee earners were very approachable - always felt that I could seek their advice on matters. Partners and associates also took time to answer more general questions about pursuing a career in law in a wider context, often offering practical advice.
Good balance. Didn't feel overwhelmed, but at the same time pace was reasonably fast - as one would expect from a firm of this size.
As expected - hardly going to be running the show, as not even legally qualified to offer advice. However, I was given the opportunity to meet with clients directly and obtained legal advice from a fee earner in one of the firm's overseas offices on behalf of a client.
Experience certainly helped me to adopt the mindset of commercial lawyer. You learn very quickly that flowery language simply isn't the right style and that concise and clear communication when dealing with clients is imperative. I also found that the spell checker is my new best friend.
The Company
Fee earners work hard, but there is no concept of face-time like there is at certain firms. Everyone is very sociable and easy to get on with.
Vac scheme was very well structured with insightful talks into most areas of the firm.
Fee earners and management seemed very keen to focus on professional development, with plenty of opportunities to speak to the grad recruitment team and fee earners throughout the scheme.
Subsidised Canteen
The Culture
Very sociable group of people - it was great to catch up with everyone at the socials and at lunch.
As expected for Central London
It's London.
A number of socials were organised during the scheme.
