The Role
During my time at Xerox i had a fantastic experience. My Job role came with a great deal of responsibity and felt that i had a proper job role and was a valuable member of the team. My job was very stressful at times but it enabled me to both learn a great deal and liaise with a number of people. Overall i enjoyed my year at Xerox and learnt a great deal whilst gaining fantastic experience.
I felt extremely valued by my collegues. This was as my job role entailed booking revenue for commissions on a monthly basis and therefore would liase with a vairty of different people across the organisation. I made some valued friends and always recieved appreciation for my hard work.
I recieved a great deal of support from my manager and team during my year. I received a handover period from my previous student and then was left to my own devices to adapt to the role. Although i was left to learn and continue where the previous student had left off i always knew i had the support of my manager and he was always willing to offer me guidance when it was required, and he would always support my decisions.
My role saw the amalgamation of two roles previously. this is as these roles were both quiet at set times of the month. Therefore they were amalgamated into one role, which i was the lucky recipient of. This provided me with a steady work flow throughout the monthly cycle.
I was given a great deal of responsibility within my job role. However, with this responsibility came the added pressure of resolving disputes with any of the sales force who didnt agree with my calculations. Within my job role any mistakes would effect colleagues on a personal level within their pay. Although this was initially daunting i quickly settled into the role and am grateful for the experience.
Xerox place great emphasis on their learning and support infrastructure, Learning@Xerox. The skills which I feel have been enhanced the most through undertaking this placement year are the soft skills which I possess. In particular my planning, organisation and communication skills. Also, my assimilating and summarising of information skills have improved dramatically. I am now confident when communicating either verbally or in writing. This will be of great benefit to me in my final year at University especially with group work and presentations.
The Company
The office was mainly busy, and the atmoshphere was very work orientated as to be expected. However, there were times when this was mixed with 'banter' and i feel i had a perfect balance.
The placement was well organised right from the application process to me leaving the company. I can have no complaints about this.
The training infratsructure of Learning@Xerox allowed me to complete numerous courses and industry recognised qualifications including. Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt), Excel - Intermediate, Excel Advanced, Master Negotiator, European Computers Drivers License (ECDL), Fire Safety, First Aid.

I would be open to a return to Xerox for future employement if i was to find a suitable job role within the correct geographical location. I have plenty of contacts within the company now and I know that the door is open for me if i so choose to take it and i would have the full support of my manager to help me secure a job role. I have applied to the Xerox graduate scheme and i can now wait and see what is to happen in the future.
The Culture
The social life was very good amongst the students at Xerox with regular events. Xerox takes on approximately 90 students a year of which 50-60 were based within my office. This helped me with the transition between university and working as most of the students move into local halls to meet each other first before securing housing.
Overall the prices in Uxbridge were ok, they were higher than what i was used to being a student, but then i was not earning as much when i was a student so it balances out.
Uxbridge had a few bars and clubs but was so close to London that everything could be accessed via tube which was not an issue.
There were a few activites throughout the year such as boat cruises down the River Thames and Football Competitions. Other than this it was up to the students to organise social activites.
