The Role
I enjoyed it hugely. I was given a wide variety of tasks which I had responsibility over. The work life balance was also better than expected as there were lots of events to help network with different people in the bank.
My colleagues all made me feel valued and respected my opinions on the projects I worked on.
If I ever had any problems all of the team would be willing to help when they could find time. Whether they were a director or an analyst. I was also given constructive guidance and advice on how to improve my work.
This varied greatly depending on the time of the month, and how far through the internship I was. However on the whole I had a lot of work to do and and if I had too much free time, they would offer me more work.
The tasks I was in charge of were my personal responsibility to complete on time. I felt like it was down to me to perform on these tasks and my team understood that. They would check the work and reports once I completed them, however left the changes and edits to me to fix.
I feel it has helped directly with both my studies and work in the future. My team helped me link my tasks in with my degree in a theoretical perspective as well as teaching me important employment related skills.
The Company
It was calm and potentially dull at times. Although there were small gatherings on Fridays where teams would all mix and network with each other.
It was very well organised. There were pre-scheduled meetings with economists and other senior employees for all the intern class. There were also smaller meetings HR arranged to have more personal conversions with different people in the business. The training was also all well planned.
Deutsche Bank spent a great deal on the interns, with arranging meetings with senior employees and several days of targeted training which was then supported by more electronic based training. HR also took a great interest in how the internships were going with the intention of helping any potential downsides we experienced.

I was offered a job on the last day of the internship. I have accepted this offer and will start next summer. I feel this is rare in the current economic climate and is a huge bonus.
The Culture
The interns met regularly in training sessions and presentations from employees. This meant there was a good social side to the students and groups routinely met up on the weekends and after work to socialize.
My internship was in London and so was not cheap. However I felt the financial incentives Deutsche Bank provided meant this was easily manageable and affordable.
The nightlife was diverse and lively. Being in a big city meant that there was always somewhere to go in the evenings.
There were some opportunities however work dominated the majority of my time. With some interns working long hours on weekends too. This meant it limited other activities outside work.
