The Role
It was a fantastic experience which I would definitely recommend to future students.
I had a fantastic working relationship with my team and the people within the company who were always happy to help if I was a bit stuck. This kept me motivated.
I was given training in the areas which would benefit me and this was all supported by the management at National Grid.
As I worked in the Finance department, there was always something to do and the work kept on coming. We were exceptionally busy during the end of the month where journals needed to be posted and accounts needed to be closed for that period.
I was given a lot of reponsibility by my manager, which showed me that she had faith in me to do the job and take on full responsibility. There was a lot of trust involved which showed me that my manager believed in me to do well. This was definitely a great motivation.
As I study Accountancy at university, I was able to put the theory I learnt at university into practise during my placement year at National Grid.
The Company
It was heads down in our department as work kept on coming and there was always something to do. However, there were pleasant smiles that kept the day going and everyone generally seemed eager to get the work done.
There were several delays in getting updates on when the placement would begin, however this was soon resolved.
I was sent to a couple of training courses that would benefit me in order for me to get the work done as I would know how to use the software when need be. I was also given the opportunity to go on training courses that would benefit me in other ways otherthan my degree, i.e Safe and Unsafe Acts Training (SUSA Training) which can help me in the future within the workforce.

National Travel
A fantastic company to work for with high future prospects.
The Culture
We had a great relationship amongst the placement students within the workplace and outside of the workplace. We were a part of Newnet (which was a network of new starter) where several visits were organised to different power stations up and down the country. As well as this we also had networking events involved which was beneficial as it helped us to get to know one another on a professional level.
It was average however as I had to live out in Warwick, I had to pay rent from my wages.
It was not too bad. Good for socialisng and going out.
A few, sports and theatres.
