The Role
I significantly enjoyed this internship, both in the time spent in the office as well as the time spent out of the office with colleagues.
Everyone that I worked with was very kind and helpful. They never once sent me to get coffee, make copies, or do any of the assumed intern tasks.
The system provides you with a buddy (someone who is relatively junior on the desk that you are one) to help answer questions as well as a mentor (someone quite high up in the firm from a desk that you will not be on) to assist with any issues that arise within the firm or that you do not want to discuss with your desk.
This differs significantly between desks. Some desks have projects for you to do all of the time, and some desks prefer for you to sit with people and learn through experiencing first hand.
I believe that I was given as much responsibility as the FSA allows me to have been given. Without FSA approval you cannot trade or advise clients, but short of that my work was valued and important.
I learned far more during the 9 weeks of my internship than I could have learned in two (maybe even three) times that long in university. Presentation skills, accounting skills, communication skills, financial skills, valuation skills, and most importantly Excel skills.
The Company
I worked on the trading floor which was always pretty busy.
In general the placement was organised very well. There were times (during presentations etc.) where we had maybe a little too much time off, but there were drinks organised and intern events as well as talks with executives. There were a lot of opportunities provided for us to meet people and experience the company outside of just working.
The firm made it very clear from the beginning that they were looking to hire and that they wanted to do their very best to teach us all they could.

I have a full time placement with this firm.
The Culture
The interns were out every weekend together. The internship is in London so there were plenty of places to go and things to do.
London is expensive.
The nightlife in London is amazing.
The JP Morgan running challenge took place while we were working and we were given the opportunity to run in this. We did a community project outside of the office. We had plenty of events scheduled for drinks and networking outside of work.
