The Role
Human Resources and colleagues really helped me take on projects that were challenging but enjoyable and matched my interests. I study English literature and Spanish, and Human Resources really went out of their way to find projects that fit my skill set, from working on the launch of a new company magazine to organising a ten month placement working in the Madrid offices.
People at Fidelity are genuinely friendly people who are interested in you and your ambitions. Both in my time in the London offices and Madrid my colleagues were really welcoming and made sure I knew how much they valued my work.
I worked with some really great managers who not only provided the guidance and support to take on more and more responsibility in my job, they also made sure to give me an insight into the company at a higher level. They always had time for my questions and were very approachable.
I generally had a good balance between ad hoc and routine tasks, which gave me a steady but varied stream of work.
From early on I was trusted to be self-motivated and organise my own time, and I was given responsibility for some very exciting and demanding projects.
The time I spent working for Fidelity has helped me enormously in my degree as I developed my communication skills in Spanish to a very high level, and also my employability skills as a whole have been greatly improved by the range of projects I worked on and the different opportunities I was offered.
The Company
The office was very hard working but always convivial - people always had time for you if you had a question, and made time to catch up with you.
Human Resources kept up a good level of communication with me and my managers during my placement to make sure everything was running smoothly and made sure that I had regular contact with fellow interns and graduates.
Fidelity puts a lot of effort into providing a great intern/graduate scheme. There are lots of internal training and social events which help you to build your network of contacts both among fellow graduates and prominent figures in the company. They were also really flexible and worked to adapt the intern program exactly to the amount of time I was available and what placements would suit me best.

International Travel
After completing my placement in Madrid I had a final interview with human resources and a senior manager, which culminated in Fidelity offering me a place on their graduate scheme.
The Culture
I spent most of my placement working in Madrid, where the office is quite small and there were no other interns. However, the office was still very social and we would often go out for lunch together. There was more of a social aspect working in London as the offices are very large and many graduates and interns are based there.
The London and Madrid offices are based in quite expensive locations, however in Madrid I lived in a different area of the city which was much cheaper but still easy to commute to work from.
The nightlife in the areas themselves weren't great, but it was easy to travel to areas with more bars and clubs.
Fidelity encourages employees to take part in fundraising and charity projects which are often a lot of fun.
