The Role
For the right person the internship would be great but personally I didn't find the work particularly challenging.
I think everyone on the internship would agree, the best part of BAML is the people. Everyone in my team was really friendly and welcoming. Interns aren't treated any differently to any other employees which meant I really got to get stuck in to my project.
When they day 'there isn't such a thing as a stupid question' they really do mean it! My only criticism is that sometimes people can be too busy to help.
I certainly had a lot to be getting on with however the work wasn't always particularly interesting or challenging.
I was given a lot of responsibility within the project and had several key tasks assigned to me, however help was always there if it was needed.
Most of the skills I used I already possessed prior to starting, however I did gain an insight into what it's like to work within a corporate environment.
The Company
Everyone in the office was hard working however the atmosphere was fairly relaxed and friendly. After work drinks were also fairly regular, which gave the chance to socialise with other departments
It was a little slow paced to begin with, taking a lot of time to get computers etc setup, however once that was sorted everything was well organised.
I had access to online training materials and books, as well as some one on one time with other developers. A lot of the learning was self teaching though - not necessarily a bad thing!
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
This was my first time working within a corporate environment and it wasn't for me. I also didn't find the work stimulating enough and the pace of work was fairly slow.
The Culture
After works drinks were regular and even as an interns we were always involved!
Being canary wharf it was very expensive - even the on site canteen was still fairly pricey.
Mainly bars in canary wharf but obviously being in london there is plenty to do
Aside from 5 a side football I wasn't aware of any activities outside of work.
