The Role
I really enjoyed my placement so much that I applied for the graduate scheme with the company and was offered a place. I am really looking forward to working for edf-energy full time after a year in the nuclear industry.
It took very little time to get to know everyone in the group and everyone made an effort to get to know me, right from the start.
My supervisor and manager really welcomed me into the group and gave me lots of tours when I started which meant that I was able to be left alone fairly early on. They were also always really helpful when I asked questions and needed support.
I would say initially the workload was quite low while I was learning how the station was run, hence why the score is low, however the work load really increased throughout the year so that I had a great balance by the end.
I was given the opportunity to run an area of the group which is the role of a qualified engineer and requires work to be produced on a regular basis to a strict deadline for an external agency, as well as my other work so I couldnt really have asked for more responsibility.
I will use the people skills I developed for the rest of my career, and the computer skills I learnt will come in very handy at university.
The Company
Everyone was always friendly however there was always a good level of professionalism.
I would say initially not much planning had been put into the work I would undertake throughout my year, however I believe I was the first placement student my group had had for a while, so now I think the placement would be more structured.
I was enrolled on so many course and training sessions, I would say a lot of time and money was invested in me which I really appreciated and made me feel like a member of staff.
