The Role
I had the privilege of working for a very friendly and supportive team, whilst doing interesting and topical work that was of great benefit to my CV.
My team were always very supportive, friendly and keen to help me. They answered any questions I had and made a significant contribution to my learning experience there.
My line manager was fantastic. He recognised that I was capable of managing my own workload and was happy to let me get on with the tasks I was given. If I ever had a problem he always had time for me and provided frequent interesting insights into the financial services industry. Great colleague on a personal and professional level.
Given that I was working on multiple projects I usually had something to do but there were times when I was free and other times when I was very busy, but that's the nature of work. It's down to how you use that time that can dictate how much you get out of an internship.
I was very fortunate that I was heavily involved in some key and topical projects. The highlight of this was when I took the lead on an initial documentation review. The tasks I completed on a daily basis were of key importance to the bank and I felt like I was given ample responsibility.
I improved my skills in analysis and certainly communication, given that I had to analyse vast streams of data on a daily basis whilst meeting many different colleagues from other departments in the bank for one project. I experienced many different teams whilst at the bank and vastly improved my general knowledge of banking.
The Company
Generally good, people were very friendly and approachable.
I can't fault it. No problems and the graduate recruitment team were always helpful and only a phone call away.
I think this is the only aspect for improvement given that I felt you drove your own development more than the other way round. I completed various compulsory learning modules but the online training system could be improved so in your spare time you could teach yourself and learn about different aspects of banking.
