The Role
It was rewarding but certainly not easy. A lot is expected of you but also you get a lot back!
Everyone was very kind and willing to answer questions particularly the junior members of the team. The more senior ones were less approachable and seemed less interested.
I was very much left to fend for myself in the start which was quite daunting. I had a mentor although I hardly ever saw her because she was in a completely separate building. After a few weeks though the support wasn't really necessary.
I would say borderline too busy, almost every evening after work I would just go straight to bed it was that tiring!
I spent the majority of my times with the various trading departments and being unable to trade at all meant there was not a huge amount of responsibility but the team members counted on you to spot news or market shifts they may have missed.
I loved what I did and I know it will prove useful although it is completely unrelated to my university degree.
The Company
The office was always buzzing with phones ringing constantly and people shouting across the room!
Fantastically well organised, so much was laid on for us interns from socials to dinners to guest speakers!
As previously mentioned a huge amount of time was invested in us even from senior partners in the business who gave occasional talks.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Things are looking promising for a job with the company so fingers crossed!
The Culture
The social scene was ok although personally I did not have time to socialise with them much due to the long tiring days so personally it mainly only occurred at company organised parties and socials.
The cost of living was extremely expensive as was all activities although that is probably due to the fact that I stayed in student accommodation in Waterloo which is an expensive area of London.
The nightlife is supposed to be really good but I did not have time to really experience much of it!
The dinners and socials occurred after work hours but were always in exciting places, such as the vista (a bar atop of a hotel which overlooks nelsons column, incredible!). Furthermore there was also a couple of opportunities to get involved in company sport which some of the interns took up.
