The Role
I REALLY ENJOYED MY PLACEMENT YEAR WITH TESCO, I HAVE LEARNT MORE THAN I EXPECTED AND IM LOOKING FORWARD TO PURSUING MY CAREER WITH TESCO AFTER MY GRADUATION.
THE TEAM IN WHICH I WORKED WITH MADE ME FEEL REALLY WELCOME FROM THE START AND SUPPORTED ME THROUGH TOUGH TIMES. MY COLLEAGUES WERE APPROACHABLE AND SHARED THEIR KNOWLEDGE WHICH MADE ME FEEL PART OF THE TEAM AND MAINTAINED MY CONFIDENCE IN A NEW JOB ROLE.
MY STORE MANAGER PROVIDED ME WITH AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE WHICH HAS SUBSEQUENTLY LED TO ME BEING SPONSERED BY TESCO. MY MANAGER HAS GUIDED ME TO FULFIL MY POTENTIAL AND EMBARK ON GREAT OPPORTUNITIES. THE MANAGEMENT TEAM IN WHICH I WORKED WITH WERE FUN YET PROFESSIONAL.
WORKING IN RETAIL IS A VERY BUSY JOB, PERHAPS MY EXPERIENCE WOULD BE SLIGHLTY UNFAIR TO JUDGE WHAT A NORMAL MANAGER IN TESCO WOULD BE LIKE AS I OPENED A BRAND NEW STORE WERE MORE PRESSURES AND TASKS NEED TO BE COMPLETED WITH TIGHT DEADLINES.
I WAS GIVEN HUGE RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN MY YEARS PLACEMENT FROM RECRUITMENT, TO TRAINING PLANS FOR NEW STARTERS AND MANAGING CRUCIAL BUDGETS FOR THE STORE. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS DAUNTING I ENJOYED AND FELT SUPPORTED THROUGHOUT.
THE SKILLS I HAVE DEVELOPED WILL ASSIST ME THROUGHOUT MY FINAL YEAR AND HOPEFULLY THOUGHOUT MY CAREER, I HAVE HAD A REAL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THE WORLD OF WORK IS LIKE WHICH WILL SUPPORT THE COMPLETION OF MY FINAL DISSERTATION AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRACTICAL SIDE WHEN STUDYING THE THEORY IN MY UP COMING MODULES. I WOULD HOPE THAT WITH THIS EXPERIENCE THE COMPLETION OF MY FUTURE WORK WILL BE TO A HIGH STANDARD DUE TO THE ABILITY TO COMPARE THEORY AND PRACTICE. THE TRAINING I RECIEVED WAS THOUROUGH AND THE EXPERIENCE HAS OPENED MY EYES IN TERMS OF THE BUSINESS WORLD.
The Company
TESCO IS A FUN PLACE TO WORK, ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES STRESSFUL THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME WAS A POSITIVE PLACE TO WORK. TESCO DOES HAVE A "FUN AT WORK" ASPECT WHICH IS LIVE IN MANY STORES AND IS LED BY EMPLOYEES. I WAS INVOVLED IN MUCH FUNDRAISING AND FANCY DRESS DAYS.
ALTHOUGH TESCO DOESNT NORMALLY DO AN UNDERGRADUATE PLACEMENT I HAVE FELT SUPPORTED AND DIRECTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE YEAR.

I HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY AND HAVE MET TONY REED WHO IS AN OPERATIONS DIRECTOR WHO IS SPONSERING ME TO RETURN TO UNIVERSITY AND THEN COMPLETE A SIMILAR PROGRAMME TO THEIR GRADUATE SCHEME. MY AIM IS TO BECOME THE YOUNGEST FEMALE STORE MANAGER.
The Culture
IVE MET SOME GREAT FRIENDS WHO WILL REMAIN FRIENDS FOREVER. UNFORTUNATELY AS TESCO DOESNT NORMALLY DO UNDERGRATUATE PROGRAMMES THERE WASNT ANY STUDENTS AS SUCH WHICH I COULD TALK WITH, HOWEVER I HAVE MADE FRIENDSHIPS AND WAS IN CONTACT WITH TWO STUDENTS WHO WERE ON THE GRADUATE PROGRAMME, I SEEKED MUCH ADVICE FROM THE TWO OF THEM AND WILL REMAIN IN CONTACT. I BONDED REALLY WELL WITH MY MANAGEMENT TEAM AND HAVE BEEN OUT WITH THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE A PART OF THAT.
THERE WASNT A NEED FOR ME TO MOVE AWAY TO FULFIL MY JOB ROLE HOWEVER I DID TRAVEL FOR TWO HOURS A DAY, A TOTAL OF 104 MILES PER DAY. ALTHOUGH THIS MAY SEEM ALOT AS THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE TRAVEL FOR THEIR JOBS AND I WOULDNT HAVE SWAPPED THIS EXPERIENCE JUST FOR THE SAKE OF BEING CLOSER TO HOME.
THE NIGHT LIFE IN THE AREA WAS OK BUT IT IS QUITE A RURAL AREA SO WE TENDED TO GO OUT IN CHESTER AND LIVERPOOL.
THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOVLED WITH ACTIVITES OUTSIDE OF WORK, MY FRIENDS WERE INVOVLED IN A SKY DIVE OUTSIDE OF WORK WHICH WAS EXCELLENT TO BE INVOVLED WITH.
