  • Regular review meetings were planned with my line manager and feedback was given by both parties to aid personal development and ensure the workload was correct.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As the year went on you found the work load increased, but your ability to do the work increased with it. This helped you realise your development throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The year is what you make of it. I was heavily involved with the project team and was given the responsibility to do a major project that the factory required to make it a safer place.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I'm now a much more thorough and motivated engineer and my time management is greatly improved. I also feel I communicate at a much higher level after a year in industry, something that will benefit me throughout my career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good atmosphere in the office and the management team got on very well.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the factory I was based at the whole scheme operated very well due to my line manager but I know there were some indifferences at other sites.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Just enough training was administered for the role. Nothing more nothing less.

    3/5

  • I have secured myself a place on the companies graduate scheme which I will be starting in 2014

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were about 15 students within the organisation in total located at 4 different sites. When we met for various specialist days we would always make sure we met up for a meal and catch up before/after.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Norwich and the landlord I found offered an excellent young professionals house share meaning I settled in and made a number of friends outside of work in a short period of time. I also played rugby and had plenty of nights out.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Living in Norwich was probably the best for night life out of all the British Sugar sites. There's quite a few clubs, bars and pubs so pretty much anything you could need.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had enough time to play rugby and football on a regular basis throughout the year. There is also a large music scene in Norwich as well as a premier league football club and loads of beaches around norfolk in the summer time.

    4/5
