The Role
The work atmosphere was great; i was able to interact with multiple departments on a daily basis & everyone was willing to help. Being in a friendly environment definitely helped when learning the new job role. I was able to gain insight into the processes outside of my job role gaining greater knowledge.
I felt my colleagues respected me as an equal although i was an intern. They would take into consideration my comments as well as trust what I was saying if there were any queries. I was able to not only bond with them on a work level but also on a social level.
My supervisor was fantastic, she would support me in my role & always keep me in the loop even if it wasn't imperative for me know. She understood that I was new to the role & would check if i the work load was okay. If i didn't understand something, i felt confident that i could go to her & she would explain it.
I was always kept busy with interesting jobs. I would have to follow a product from order to when it was shipped, so to keep on it was imperative. At one point i was given more work due to staffing changes, so i had to stay later & often had to leave more remedial tasks but this was only short term until new staff were in place. Management through this time offered me greater support & would distribute other work.
My responsibility increased the more i got to learn the role. My supervisor understood when i could be given more responsibility. Although there were certain things i would have to clear with my supervisor, she would take into consideration my comments on the matter. Once cleared with her i would be able to continue.
They have been invaluable, i have come back to University with a greater understanding of the different roles & the different processes involved in the industry. It has also taught me what it's like to work within a high paced head office environment. Being part of Phase Eight has provided even more motivation to succeed in the industry.
The Company
It was a great work & social balance. We all understood that work was the priority but conversation was always part of the day. It is an open plan office allowing for further interaction with multiple departments.
I was invited to join the team for a day prior to my fully joining where i was able to meet everyone, get a feel for the building and what was required. The previous intern went through the role with me & gave me her thoughts on the role. Going through all that before actually starting meant i was able to go in on my first day & know what to expect.
I was trained in different systems relevant to the role. When they felt i could be given more responsibility they did. I was able to get involved in meetings and to present at best sellers. I was involved in pressdays and other events.

Upon my completion of 13th months work they offered me a job once i had graduated.
The Culture
There were only 2 placement students, however there wasn't any prejudice in terms of job level. There are other permanent staff that are of similar age that i got on really well, we would often go out for lunch or after work drinks which allowed us to get to know each other better & develop friendships.
Being in London it was quite expensive however you were able to find cheaper things to do.
There were a few bars & pubs near us that stayed open later. As we all lived in different areas, we didn't often go out in the place we worked.
We had a social club that would do an event every month, although i didn't go to any of these you were always invited, they were all reasonably priced & exciting.
