Corporate Finance Summer Analyst Review

Deutsche Bank is a great organization! I am not from the UK, so I was impressed from the start that they set us up with convenient and affordable housing. The internship started with a week of training, which besides being interesting and useful also was a great way to get to know the other interns. Throughout, I think the internship provided excellent exposure to the daily operations of DB, so that when I return to join full-time next summer, I know what I will be doing.

My colleagues are what makes DB outstanding. Both the full-time employees and the interns are from countries and schools all over the world, which means that they make up a pool of really diverse and interesting people. Most of them were easy to get to know, very pleasant to interact with, and a lot of fun to hang out with outside of work.

I can only speak for my team, but I definitely felt that there was a strong sense that we were all working toward the same goals and trying to help each other get there. I felt that my supervisors were genuinely interested in getting to know me, and were very eager to offer support and guidance.

This varied a lot. Some days I was busy from the moment I got in till I left at night. Other days, I had stretches of time where I sat idle. However, because we always work till the job is done, my team encouraged working with other teams or going to the gym whenever one had excess time, so that I felt that a lot of this time was spent productively.

I felt that I was given quite a bit of responsibility. Already on my first day at the desk, a piece of work that I prepared (and that my superiors reviewed, of course) was sent to a client. Throughout, a lot of the work I did was intended for clients, which made me feel very involved with the ongoing projects.

These are definitely skills for life, as I plan on returning to join DB full-time after I finish my degree. Having already completed the internship, I am looking forward to the extensive training at the start of the full-time program, and am very excited to become a permanent member of the team!

We worked a lot, so it was great that everybody got along really well. My supervisor encouraged team lunches and going to the gym in groups, so I felt that the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. You get to know the people you work with well!

The internship was incredibly well organised. I've already mentioned that DB set us up with housing. Onboarding was very smooth. The training at the start was excellent and great for getting to know the other interns. Throughout, HR organised lectures, social events, and lunches with senior bankers, all of which were great opportunities to learn about the business and meet people from different divisions.

Excellent training during the first week. The internship also required a presentation at the end, for which all the resources of DB were available, and my supervisors were eager to help me do it as well as possible.

I am excited to return full-time next summer!

The first week of training and social events provided an excellent venue to get to know the other interns, all of whom were impressive individuals from a diverse set of countries and elite schools. Because most of the interns lived together in the accommodation provided by DB, there was a great social scene with large groups of people exploring the London nightlife together on weekends.

London is very expensive. However, DB provided us with affordable housing near the office. By hosting a lot of social events, DB made sure that we had ample opportunity to get to know one another without spending any money at all. Living together in the same building also provided an opportunity for inexpensive socialising.

The City itself isn't great, but if you're not having fun in London, you're doing something wrong!

Living together meant that it was easy to get a group of interns together to explore London. I also had the opportunity to do a bit of traveling on weekends, which I greatly appreciated. There was not a lot of time left over during the week. However, it was almost always possible to hit up the gym during the workday, which was a huge plus.
