The Role
My internal secondment was really enjoyable. It offered me the chance to gain experience in a different practice group and get stuck into some contentious work which I had no previous experience in.
I was given a really interesting matter to work on and as always at Shoosmiths, everyone from Partner to Paralegal was happy to share their experiences with me.
Being in an open plan environment, I was sat within earshot of my supervising Partner who was always willing to give me steer when I needed it.
I was busy, but not so busy that I couldn't manage. The benefit of working in a large firm like Shoosmiths is that there is sufficient support at every level meaning that I never felt like I was out of my depth or over-stretched.
Shoosmiths will let you have as much responsibility as you can manage. My supervisor kept an eye on what I was doing, but was happy to let me manage the matter myself and liaise with the various parties involved.
Being able to gain experience in a practice area outside of that which I currently work in was of great benefit to me. Some of the skills and knowledge I picked up were directly transferable into my current practice area.
The Company
Lots of social activities taking place throughout the week. From netball and football, to propping up the bar on a Thrusday night.
I was able to attend a practice group training session in Birmingham which was really interesting. It also allowed me to practice networking as a number of in-house lawyers were invited to the sessions.
Already employed by Shoosmiths
The Culture
