The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Barclays, I was pushed throughout but found the work interesting and a good challenge.
Although sometimes a bit quiet I got on with everyone well and felt like the work I was doing was useful and required.
I had a brilliant Director supervising me who perfectly balanced helping me along with letting me find things out for myself
I was very busy all day and worked long hours really hard but on a trading desk thats to be expected.
I was given some tasks which seemed quite important. I had a slightly different skill set than everyone on my desk and as such was able to help out in certain areas.
Learning another launguage (VBA) was quite useful although I doubt I'll use it again. I learnt a lot about finance though and as thats definatly where I want to work after this summer was very useful.
The Company
Everyone worked really hard and was very nice, I think it's different for different desks and maybe mine was a little serious for me. Still enjoyed it a lot though.
Really well organised despite being very flexible.
I think that the 2 day course at the biginning was useful but as I'd already worked for 2 weeks not amazingly helpful. I felt my desk put a lot of work in though and I learnt an awful lot from them especially from my boss.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Not really sure, I left on a very positive note with strong verbal feedback, however as I don't finish for more than a year I will have to see how we both stand when I'm done.
The Culture
Met some nice people and especially a couple of really good guys.
I've lived in London before so pretty much expected.
Pretty good on Friday night but non existant other days of the week, too much work.
I few, any more would have been too much given the workload.
