The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Nomura. It was a fantastic experience and I learnt so much/made many valuable contacts.
Whilst everyone was very nice I didn't feel as if I was an important part of the team, more just there to observe than be of any real help.
My first supervisor was very accommodating and went out of his way to ensure I enjoyed my time. The one I had for the second half of the internship was far harder to approach and therefore build rapport with.
I was busy every single day I worked there but thats what I had expected and what I wanted. Even when I hadn't been given any formal work I was always keen to find out more because I found it so interesting!
As previously mentioned I had very little responsibility and I was more observing the other employees. Despite this we did have intern groups with challenges and tasks which you were wholly responsible for.
Whilst the skills developed may not be directly in line with my degree course they will definitely prove useful when applying for graduate schemes and when actually starting work!
The Company
The office was always a hive of activity and as such there was never a dull moment. I wouldn't describe it as fun it was more exciting!
The internship was superbly organised. It seemed as if the company really wanted to ensure we had the best time possible which I personally did!
There were so many opportunities for training and development - I got free Bloomberg training which was superb!
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered a place on the graduate scheme dependent upon my final year degree performance and further interviews!
The Culture
I occasionally went for drinks with the other interns but I don't think the social scene was as good as at other banks.
I was based in the office in the city of london and absolutely everything seemed more expensive than anywhere else I had been!
I went out only a couple of times to events organised by either Nomura or another big investment bank. These events were amazing with drinks included and always in great locations.
We had a couple of social events organised by Nomura. I also went for a meal with my first team on two occasions after work.
