The Role
It felt less like an internship and more like a work experience, as I feel I will leave with far more actual business critical experience than most interns.
Integrated very well, worked with some fantastic people
1:1s with my manager on a very regular basis with the ability to approach her at any time in addition to this
Due to the fact I was on a business critical project, my time was very valuable to the team and I was therefore very busy
Personally responsible for a large section of the business critical project
It was easy to see how my learning would fit into a working environment and I was able to develop new skills that applied directly to my role
The Company
Lots of social events and plenty of friendly faces to meet at lunchtime
Due to it being early in Cisco's internship scheme, set up was a little shaky and not quite aligned with the US, but it worked well overall and we all settled in well
Some training was given, but most of my learning happened on the job. I learnt a lot, and was advised to work with particular individuals to gain the most experience
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Very likely to get an offer - a large number of interns get taken on as grads, as Cisco really seems to understand that this is a way of recruiting better grads, not just getting in tea makers
The Culture
I lived with 4 of the other interns and socialised regularly with the others
Due to living nearer London than any of us were accustomed to, rent was slightly higher than we imagined, but we got a lovely house to share and the nights out weren't too bad as we were near a London university
Often had to travel a little way to get a night out - great pubs in Richmond, but for a proper night out had to venture to Windsor or Central London
Lots of volunteering and charity work takes place at Cisco and we were all made to join at least one track that acted as 'extra-curricular' or outside of our work area - mine was particularly interesting as I worked alongside loads of existing groups in Cisco
