The Role
Really great time there. Everyone was friendly and the work environment was superb.
The work I did was part of a close knit team of engineers. I really felt like a valued member of the team.
Support and guidance was always there when required but the management didn't encroach on my work at all.
I was pretty busy all the way through. The last few days were a rush to get things written up.
I was more or less left to manage my time and my project.
Hands on, practical application of a variety of RF, programming and electronics skills. Very helpful!
The Company
Everyone was busy with their work but there was always a friendly atmosphere. (And trying to get a handle on how Olympic long jumpers manage to reach 8m by experiment).
They clearly had a well rehearsed placement system. All the managerial parts went smoothly and my project was almost ready to go as soon as I had arrived.
The company really helped me learn about the corporate environment. There was always someone there to help if I was stuck on something. They also ran seminars to spread knowledge of new technology around the company.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I am potentially doing another, extended internship with them next spring/summer and I believe their graduate recruitment system is strong.
The Culture
A donut break and on-site bar on a Friday were very nice. Flexi time made it easy to arrange to meet people as well.
Southampton accommodation really is very cheap!
Southampton is great for clubs/pubs. Not a huge amount of live music (though I didn't look particularly hard).
Lots of sports clubs and activities to do there.
