The Role
The work I was given offered a challenge, whilst still being fun to do. The social side of work was also good.
I felt like my ideas were valued and always felt like one of the team. I made many friends whilst on my placement.
After I was trained by the previous interns, my managers were always on hand to offer guidance. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone in the office is always happy to help you do something.
I never had so much work I felt stressed or snowed under. At times I did ask to take on more work as I felt I could do more.
I was given the right amount of responsibility. I was given tasks, and had them explained to me and then I was left to complete them. I felt the responsibility was appropriate for my role in the company.
I gained valuable experience in the work place. I was able to suggest ideas based on my own interests and knowledge and received valuable input in how to improve what I could already do. Delcam is a great place to learn more about how to apply your skills to a professional environment.
The Company
The atmosphere is informal. When people are busy it tends to be quiet, but the chat in the office was good. People socialse outside of work too so people are friends and colleagues.
The work placement was very well organised. I was trained by the previous interns, I also had a folder to help me with everyday tasks. I felt that my responsibilities were clearly laid out for me and I was often given more exciting projects to work on. There was great variety in the role.
Delcam offer much on-the-job training and I feel that I have gained a comprehensive knowledge of a variety of software.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would definitely work for Delcam again and my colleagues job roles looked interesting and fulfilling
The Culture
I socialised a lot with the graduates, other placement students and at times the rest of my department and company. The marketing department hosted events every now and then, there are 2 Christmas events for the whole company. On top of this there are sporting events such as Delcam Climbing Club, and often there were emails inviting people to join in subsidised events such as trips. I socialised with my peers a lot outside of work.
It depends on where you live. I lived in the student area of Birmingham and so it was pretty cheap. Although if you were to live else where rent might be more expensive. Socialising is cheap.
The nightlife in Birmingham is great!
There were plenty of opportunities for me to get involved in Delcam events.
