The Role
Very valuable in terms of the insight it offered to the Investment Management - Fixed Income desk at Blackrock. It was rewarding to be assigned to real projects.
Great teamwork I felt, but everyone knew what their specific role was so this resulted in a real;ly efficient team dynamic.
My manager was eager to answer any questions that cropped up during the course of the internship - I was fortunate to be working with someone not too busy though!
In my opinions, the long hours reflect an industry standard - it was good for the interns to get a real sense of what the grad role would be like.
Given ownership of a predetermined project, thus this was a great way to show your worth by completing what you were set to the best of your ability
Actually a lot of the theory tied in with what I had covered as part of Economics in university, other than that - picked up lots of professional advice relevant to the industry.
The Company
It was what I had expected - a hard working corporate environment that was very focused on the job at hand
I felt it was well laid out in general, perhaps the hours were a little much considering this was an internship.
Feedback was given from the mentor assigned to you progressively, along with advice from an external agency who came in an worked with the interns on personal development etc.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Not offered a full time role
The Culture
Got to know the rest of the intern class really well, everyone got along really well and went out as a group on most Fridays/weekends.
We were well compensated so London prices became more tolerable
The nightlife in Central London is great, something to do literally everyday. We really made the most of it while we could.
Really enjoyed the day dedicated to volunteering - this demonstrated that the firm wanted to give back to the community in some way.
