The Role
I really enjoyed working at American Express. The transation from university to having a full time job was very smooth because everyone at Amex was friendly and was happy to help. Campus recruitment planned outings weekly during the summer which meant that I was able to experience the social side of working as well. I would definatly consider applying to American Express once I have graduated.
I was always seen as an equal on my team, no one looked down on me because I was the most junior member of the team. As everyone is so friendly it is easy to build professional relationships at Amex.
I had weekly meetings with my manager where I could discuss things that I had on for the week and raise concerns if there were any problems. My manager and director were always happy to give me support even outside the weekly meetings.
I was busy during the whole of my internship but it was a good busy, not a stressful busy. I liked being busy because it meant that I always had something to do as oppose to waiting arounf doing nothing,
I was given a lot of responsibility during the internship. I was heading projects anf reporting directly to my vice president.
The skills I have learnt will really assist me in my studies. One skills that I learnt was prioritisation, i think this will particularly help me in my future studies as prioritation is crucial when revising.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relax, it was dress down Friday every Friday.
This was the first year HR has done an official scheme for summer internships so it was very organised and structured.
During the induction days there were loads of workshops and presentations for us. Also we had weekly meetings with senior leaders where we were given advise on how to progress in the company.
