The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship at E&Y. The people I had the opportunity to work with made the experience extremely beneficial, interesting and fun. As a whole, the benefits in getting to understand an organisation of the scale of E&Y and the business environment in which it operates were hugely advantageous.
My colleagues adopted an extremely friendly, approachable and pleasant manner toward myself at all times throughout my internship. I felt this attitude really helped me settle and feel comfortable with the work I was undertaking and helped me gain a real insight into the work ethos of the company as a whole.
My supervisor throughout was incredibly supportive and helpful with any questions I had. I felt comfortable being able to ask questions and gain feedback on the work I was doing at all times.
I did my utmost to stay busy with tasks during the placement, and ensured I looked for work where I could. Where there was downtime, through asking colleagues I was kept busy in helping out and never experienced significant periods where a lack of work was available.
I was given tasks to help in the teams I was assigned. I felt this contributed to the work for clients and my role was valued as a member of the team.
The communication, organisation and interactive skills I improved on during the placement I feel will be extremely beneficial for my studies and my career later in life. Adopting some of the methods and gaining from working with professionals in an established firm helped me understand some extremely useful ways of managing myself and my work to the best of my abilities.
The Company
The atmosphere was comfortable, relaxed and professional. The layout of an open plan office helped in making all colleagues approachable with whatever tasks or questions I had.
Company Parties/Events
There are some great opportunities within E&Y that I have been lucky to get an insight to. Progression through the qualification and beyond seem to offer extremely exciting prospects to experience a variety of business challenges, as well as the integrated global structure allowing opportunities to travel to exist.
The Culture
There were regular evenings for social events, organised informally by colleagues as well as scheduled on behalf of the company. These were always relaxed and fun and helped to get to know everyone in a comfortable environment.
Cost of living in Glasgow is affordable, as a student it is a great place to get the opportunity for an internship.
There is always nightlife in Glasgow.
