The Role
The people that I worked with were all very friendly and helpful and they tried to ensure that the tasks I was given to do were wide and varied.
My colleagues were all very helpful and appreciative of the work that I carried out for them. The people within the company are definitely what makes it such a good company to work for.
Each intern was assigned a "buddy" and a "counsellor" who were readily available to provide support and guidance on an ongoing basis.
There were times on the placement when I had a lot of work to carry out and others when it was quite hard to find work but overall I was kept fairly busy.
Given the type of work I was doing it wasn't possible to give me too much responsibility but I was often left to complete a task on my own which would then be checked by someone else within the office.
As I am doing an Accounting degree and it was an Accounting placement, I think the skills I developed will greatly help me in the future. I not only learned more about the Accounting profession but also developed skills such as the ability to work in a team and presentation skills.
The Company
The office atmosphere was a good balance between fun and hard work.
The induction week was very well structured and in general so was the placement. There sometimes wasn't a lot of work prepared for interns to do but that's because of the type of work it is and the fact that it is hard to know when/what a client will need help with until the situation actually arises.
The company was definitely interested in developing each interns personal skills, and whilst I wasn't given in-depth training in any one area, I did increase my knowledge of the industry.
This is definitely a company that I would be interested in working for in the future, particularly due to the staff and the friendly atmosphere in the office, but also due to its reputation and the work that it does.
The Culture
In total there were 13 interns within the company in Scotland and we all got along brilliantly. We made sure that we kept in touch during the placement to see how we were each getting on and on occassion met up after work or at the weekend.
Glasgow is like most other cities - it can be expensive or cheap depending on where you go and what you do.
Glasgow is quite a big city with lots of places to go at night. It caters for various tastes and there's usually something on every night of the week.
The people in the office would go for lunch/drinks and there were also some sports clubs that you could get involved in.
