    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed everything that was given to me. Very few menial tasks, e.g. photocopying

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • LOVED everyone. I felt completely taken into the team, everyone made me feel really welcome. They are one of the main reasons I have accepted my job offer.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given quite a lot of support. Feedback was always really useful.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was nearly always busy. There were a few days in the middle with not very much on, but we had books to read to learn about topics that could be examined in the professional qualifications, so I was always learning. I had to stay until 6 or 7pm a few days just to get things done. Apart from these few occasions the work balance was very good.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my time. I went to quite a few client meetings, and I was allowed to talk and get involved, although I couldn't provide a huge amount of detail for some clients. Our projects were great, and I felt a lot of the work I did was really useful to the team and clients.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Lots of skills were improved. Basic excel skills got much better. Along with other life skills such as team work, professionalism and understanding the work environment.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We had one or two social events during my internship. Often people brought in sweets/chocolates/cake for people to share during the day. The boys had a football team that played in a local league. Lots of jokes and banter. It was a great environment to work in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. I turned up and had a calendar of events lined up for me for the first couple of weeks, and then once I got into the job I was able to organise my own time and commitments.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time in my training and development. I had a buddy which helped with day to day problems, and a mentor which I had several meetings with throughout my internship to talk about how I was finding my time in general and talk about job prospects. I also managed to spend a lot of time with the partner, and went to a few meetings with him, which was great contact time and when I worked with him in the office he spent a lot of time teaching me rather than just telling me. At the time, I found it a little frustrating when there were deadlines to reach, but I still remember what he taught me now so obviously he knew that was the best way to do things! The pre-internship training and end of internship party must have also been a big investment for the company and they were both really enjoyable events.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Offered me a job, didn't even blink before accepting. Loved my time there, I can't wait to get started.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As mentioned before, several socials and also lots of good fun between everyone in the office.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home. Socialising was fine, sometimes even on the company!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty standard night-life. I didn't really go out much during my time, but again, was living at home so I know what it is like anyway and its pretty normal.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of stuff to get involved with, either with EY but outside work hours or other clubs/sports/choirs/theatre etc.

    5/5
