The Role
I got to meet a massive variety of great people and was really welcomed into each team I work with.
I thought, being an intern, I would be treated like a dogsbody and given lots of meaningless tasks to do but everyone was really friendly!
I was invited to ask questions if I didn't understand anything and always had everything explained clearly. I do think though that the councellor system is quite hard for Audit interns as, for me personally, I was out of the office 99% of the time so found it very difficult to arrange to meet up with them but the buddy system is fantastic as it gives you someone you can just ask all the silly questions to that you wouldn't want to bother someone more important with.
Obviously some days were busier than others but I was never buried under work and nor was I ever without anything to do.
Obviously as an intern you aren't going to be given huge levels of responsibility but I did think I would mainly be responsible for coffee runs, this was totally not the case. I was actually given responsibility for specific parts of the audit and then my work was reviewed, I was treated like a graduate recuit so it gave me a great insight into what it would be like to work there.
I am doing an Accounting and Finance degree at uni so having seen what goes on in the real world it will really help me to put a real life context into my assignments.
The Company
Its an office so you have to get the work done but because it is all open planned you are able to go and talk to anyone; whether they are an associate or a partner, it was a great atmosphere to be in!
It was great; I always knew who to contact if I had any problems and I was given a great variety of different clients to work with.
I was IT trained to use Audit software specific to EY which should make it far easier for me if I get a graduate position with the firm.

Company Parties/Events
The majority of those on the internship program are usually offered a job, hopefully I will be!!
The Culture
We went bowling, painballing, to the cinema, clubbing etcetc and there was a fantastic black tie formal organised for us at the end of the placement. It was fantastic!
In London it was obviously not cheap to go out but I have to admit it wasn't as expensive as I had thought it would be. I was fortunate enough to be living at home and commuting in each day so didn't actually have to live there but I think that was rather expensive however being at the London office we were payed more than those at the regional offices to help accomodate this.
London nightlife cannot be faulted, it was awesome!
I had some friends on the internship who got involved in the company sports teams, and all of us on the placement had a day at the local ecology park helping out there, all of the individual departments had their own parties as well whilst we were there which was good.
