The Role
Really enjoyed it. Exactly how I managed Equity Research. Given 4 stocks over 8 weeks to analyse and would do presentation every 2 weeks or so. Went to company meeting with full time grad.
Was working on my own project(s) so different work - it is very individualistic so hard to feel like part of a family on internship but nice people to work around.
Lots of guidance from director of research.
8-6 daily and came in on 2 Saturdays/ left to watch a bit of the marathon one day.
No decisions contingent on my research but I dont think you can expect to make changes to a portfolio on an internship.
Exactly what I would be doing in Equity Research so perfect in that sense. Bloomberg, DataStream training and constant use. No transferable soft skills - inherent with asset management
The Company
Quiet and hard working.
Very well organised. Heads of divisions came for "lunch & learns" - really got a feel for the whole company.
External training. Largest investment was the time value of the tens of employees who gave up a lot of time to give us feedback, talk about their divisions, allow us to go to company meetings with them etc.
Start May 2013
The Culture
Really nice group of interns across all divisions - often meet up for lunch or after-work drinks. Few drinks with recent grads and also other people across divisions high up in the company.
City London so it wont be cheap.
Once again it is city London - abacus is not bad, depends on preferences.
Tried my hand for the cricket team but the game got cancelled..
