The Role
It was quite relaxed and I learnt a lot about auditing. The majority of my time was spent working onsite which was fun from a team-bonding perspective.
Felt like one of the team. Was treated like an Associate/Graduate.
There was a slight problem as the Executive I was working with got reassigned to another client and I could only communicate through email/phone calls. On the other hand I then had the opportunity to demonstrate that I was capable of handling tasks independently.
Some days were quite busy. My work for the day depended on whether the client could retrieve files for us to audit. I spent my downtime doing e-learning modules and browsing through information on the EY intranet.
More than I expected which was great.
I became more familiar with financial statements/trial balances. Also developed strong analytical and organisational skills from working with data on Excel.
The Company
Worked on site most of the time. During the few days I was in the office I sat next to some tax interns which was interesting as I learnt more about the tax service line. Atmosphere at EY is generally quite laid back. My colleagues were very supportive and always took the time to answer any questions I had.
Jumped straight into an audit the day after the service line induction. I had a partner shadowing day scheduled for me which was the highlight of my internship. Was allocated a counsellor to discuss feedback from colleagues.
While there are no assurance focused training sessions, there are a number of e-learning modules available.

Received a full time offer.
The Culture
Had an official intern social event every week. A couple of interns formed a social committee so there were plenty of opportunities to meet the other interns. Everyone was very friendly and we were all in the same boat.
Central London so expensive. However I study in London anyway so used to it.
Central London.
Not really. Our division did have a boat party but unfortunately this clashed with an intern event. I know some interns who temporarily joined indoor football teams.
