The Role
Great working atmosphere and (usually) no long hours at the office
The people at work were great (from analysts all the way to the partners) helped whenever you asked for it and kept you occupied with relevant project work
Whenever you ask for help the the people will help you, however, you are expected to grasp concepts fairly quickly and have adequate computer skills (especially Excel)
During the internship I had some extremely busy weeks (when a new project came in and it was hectic in the office with everyone trying to get on top of their work) and some slower weeks with less pressure and work to do
Called creditors, drafted creditor letters, drafter a report which was then sent to a client, comiling research reports which were then used for analysis by others etc
You pick up a lot of teamworking skills as you know others are relying on you and you need to manage your time and priorities to get all the work done efficiently
The Company
Very pleasant. At least once a week someone bought coffee for everyone in the office (or ice cream from the supermarket) and everyone was very approachable and ready to help
Some weeks I was extremely busy and had a lot of work to do, others were a bit slower. Although you cannot really blame it on the set-up of the internship as this was true for the whole office at the time. A lot depends on whether it is a busy season, and whether or not there are a few new projects coming in at once
Paid for travel expenses to work at various locations with clients, and if I was spending the night in a different city they give a very generous dinner allowance.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
You get to become a chartered accountant. Very valuable
The Culture
Cost of living was rather low.
Edinburgh. A few clubs and bars worth going to
