    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my Insight Day at Ernst & Young and would encourage anybody thinking of doing it to apply for it. It is a really good experience, and gives you a really good insight into that sort of job. Even if your not interested in accountancy or business, I would still recommend it as it really is for anyone - helps you learn more about yourself and gives you importnant experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone who was with us was very friendly and welcoming. You never felt awkward, not wanted or uncomfortable as all the staff were great people. If I ever had any issues, they were always more than willing to help me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was never unsure of what I had to do. All tasks were thoroughly explained to me, and the supervisors offered lots of help and advise. Even if I did get a bit confused by something, I would never have felt embarrassed asking for help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The morning was quite a nice easing into the day - focused mainly on socialising and learning about Ernst & Young as a company. In the afternoon, we had to focus more and work together as a team to help clients which, although challenging, was rewarding. Breaks were common though with lots of food and drink!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We weren't given that much responsibility, but to be honest I wasn't really at work experience, I was just at an Insight Day to give myself an idea of what Ernst & Young did. That's why I gave it a score of 5/10, as I can't really answer the question.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The Ernst & Young Insight Day gave me a really good idea of what it would be like to work in a place like EY. It helped me realise my strengths as an individual, and now I feel much more confident knowing what I can do best.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone who worked there was so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, and it was perfect for when we were all a bit nervous at the start of the day. When we had to work, we changed the atmosphere to become a bit more formal, but that was due to our decision - we wanted to get the job done!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I really couldn't fault the day. It was very well structured and organised, so that we all knew what we were doing and what was coming up. All the staff were very organised as well and kept track of time well. The day even finished early as we were so organised and punctual!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I learnt so much about myself: my strengths, my weaknesses and also how I come across to other people (that bit was really interesting). In the morning we did a few exercises so that we could all see what sort of characters we were, and that was so useful.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good. I now know what they next steps are, if I want ot pursue a career with them. They explained what a job in their organisation involved, and what different areas you can specialise in. They also told us what Ernst & Young particularly value from their employees.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. The staff deliberately gave us a lot of time to mingle and network, exchanging email addresses and thing. At the start, there were a lot of exercises to get us to get to know each other - and to break the ice!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not sure to be honest which is why I gave the the answer as a 5/10 rating. I had to go to the centre of Leeds, and it seemed quite modern and pricey - a lot of new student accommodation had been built. But all my travel expenses were paid for, so it didn't really matter for me.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Wasn't able to spend my time in Leeds, but when I left there seemed a lot of young people out and about and the centre of Leeds seemed a realyl nice place to be - lots to do and loads of places to go. There is a university basically in the city which adds to the nightlife.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't see a huge amount, but to be honest I wasn't really looking. I was in the centre of Leeds, and city centres aren't the mos tlikely places to find loads of places of leisure activities. But I did really like the feel of Leeds, it seemed a really nice, vibrant and lively city.
