The Role
Found it enlightening to see the financial world for the first time and it interested me greatly.
One of the main exercises was a team building one where we had to put our ideas forth and discuss what we thought the best course of action would be.
Each team had a well-informed supervisor that would help us out when we were stuck but they generally wanted us to do things ourself.
We had a lot of exercises to get through in just one day, we were pushed for time however we managed it.
A lot, we were thrown in at the deep end and had to make a business plan with a very vague case study and little knowledge. I took the role of team leader and with this received even more responsibility of making sure our team succeeded. I have not led a team before and was a refreshing experience.
The excercise where we had to respond to a case study with a presentation in a short amount of time has helped me in all my subjects with teamwork and quick analytical thinking has helped me with my economics.
The Company
Positive. There was a lot of young students, noone knew each other however everyone wanted to get the most out of this oppurtunity so everyone worked well together. The staff also added a helpful and enjoyable atmosphere that lightened the mood so we could complete the excercises in a cheerful mood.
I received multiple emails throughout the two months before the day all reminders and helpful information of what I would need.
The day was split really into two parts. Personal development and team development. The first they asked us a questions and depending on the way we answered evaluated the type of person we were, Fire/Earth/Water.
Healthcare/Dental
I was delighted with my day, and as soon as the companies scholarship for university came available I applied. Sadly I did not manage to obtain a scholarship however I am still considering applying for a job there after university.
The Culture
Everyone was in the same boat. They did know anyone and all wanted to learn so everyone naturally got one very well.
All beverages were free, plus we were given a 'goodie bag' which was a nice touch.
In the center of london so some of the supervisors went out afterwards.
It was only a day so not really however when we werent working we were socializing.
