The Role
There was plenty to do in the office and I got on really well with the other vacation scheme students and the trainees.
I wasn't given particularly big tasks, but lots of it was research which I enjoyed and was helpful to the trainees.
We each had trainee mentors who were really helpful; we also had a department supervisor on each week of the scheme. HR were also easy to contact if necessary.
I had a good balance of work as we were given tasks by HR to do when we didn't have anything from our department. People were conscious of how busy you were so you didn't get overloaded.
Everything I did was checked by a trainee or done simultaneously by a trainee, but although this meant I didn't have a great deal of responsibility it did mean I was doing tasks that a trainee would do.
We had daily department talks but not much skills training apart from what we learnt in our departments.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and there was an open-door policy in the office.
HR were helpful and we received a good information booklet at the start of the scheme, however we weren't told when we were going to be paid which would have been helpful.
We had weekly reviews by trainees but we weren't actually given feedback from these.
Subsidised Canteen
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
There were lots of empty offices in the building which did feel a bit worrying and there did seem some concern amongst trainees about the firm's retention rate.
The Culture
I got on really well with the others on the scheme and we were all keen to go out even on nights when there wasn't a firm organised social.
Normal for London
The firm is in walking distance of Shoreditch and Spitalfields, and not too far away from Bourough Market and the south bank.
There were lots of socials and we also had a day at the Paris office which was a great experience.
