The Role
Very enjoyable placement, very good atmosphere.
Everyone was welcoming and eager to help. Anyone I asked was more than happy to have a chat over a coffee to explain the complex detail of a job, product or procedure. The work I carried out was well received and the recommendations I made are being acted on.
The internship was designed to assess your ability to perform with as little guidance as possible to see how you conduct your own work. I however did receive timely guidance when I requested it at little or no detriment to my own ability to guide my own work.
Really could have done with an extra week at the end to properly wrap things up and hand over to project managers.
For the first project I joined near to its completion therefore I was in a more of a support role the main project engineer however on the second project I was in total control and therefore totally responsible for its success or failure.
During my placement I used a lot of the analytical and mathematical skills I learnt at university. The internship has re-affirmed to me the importance of being organised structured and most of all safe in every aspect of my work.
The Company
It was a very hardworking and conscientious office though there were a few real good personalities.
Very well organised, managed to complete to assigned projects and a week in Holland.
At no cost to myself I was shown around various well sites in Holland. This helped improve my understanding of the operations carried out as part of well intervention.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Upon completion of my placement I received a job offer in a department and role that I will relish.
The Culture
Made some real friends, travelled a bit and took in a couple of festivals. have since been in touch with a few of them.
Was reasonably priced.
Aberdeen nightlife was quite good; everything is in walking distance (almost)
Social clubs had a few free BBQ's and Free bars and free cinema evenings. The department also had a golf and spa day.
