The Role
It was really interesting - you get to see real projects and really learn about what the job is all about, rather than just assuming off a website what a job is about. You also see the skills needed for each position
Really good - everyone treated us as future collaegues/leaders of the firm and everyone had 5 mins to stop and chat about their job and the work they do
It was only an insight programme, so it was more just sitting through presentations -- but HR use to encourage us to ask questions and were on hand to answer any questions
The days were long - 8 am till 8pm but within that there were presentations, breaks, breakfast and lunch and evening entertainment
None at all, your just sitting through presentations more or less
Really well. The insight into the operations of a big large bank is so useful. Actually seeing what work is about as opposed to just looking at the salaries online and thinking its your dream job. This will help so much with interviews
The Company
Surprisingly, everyone was really relaxed and talked about normal things - like the awful refeering at the weekend, what they did at the weekend, family --- it wasn't all shouting like on the Wall Street films!
Everything was pre planned, structured and prepared. They have done this scheme for years so they have ironed out any issues and its all seamless
The hole week was focussed on developing and teaching us as insight interns, along with creating a bond with Barclays. We had CV help, interview practise and revises, application reviews, one to ones questionings sessons etc..
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
I got an internship offer with them next year :) - nearly everyone did
The Culture
There were less of us than at other insight schemes, so we all got to know each better. You are also put up in a hotel so you bond well
London - but hotel and meals are all covered by Barclays
London is amazing, I stayed the weekend and went out on Friday and Saturday evenings and saw a show!
The evenings were taken up with work events - but that involved cinema trips, bowling etc so it classes as social events outside of work, just with work
