The Role
It was highly technical work, so I struggled with the material at first, but this was anticipated and I was happy with the support the team provided.
I was given the opportunity to carry real work, which affected the firm and this made me really happy
I completed training before I started my placement over the summer. The invested alot in me I felt and I got to meet a pioneer in the risk industry during training, which was costly on the firms part but overall very productive and I was pleased with the fact that they made this commitment
My regular days were 9am to 5pm. I had work to do over this period.
A lot. It was really cool when I read about something in the FT and got to work and a project relating to it was assigned to me. This ensured a steep learning curve, but was very beneficial on the long-run.
the skills I used on a day to day basis, have little to do with my degree but some of the material correlated, which help put the work I do at university into perspective.
The Company
Great, they were a huge sponsors of the 2012 games and this affected the work atmosphere in a fun way.
Really well. The had set up projects for me to complete and integrated my schedule with the teams overall targets
A lot. I was sent on a weeks training course which featured top experts and specialist in the financial world.
the most appealing perk is the work life balance as well as the relationship you build with other members of the team, which is worth alot more than first perceived
The Culture
Yes, we watched the olympics together as the firm sponsored the games, drinks after work every friday, team lunches, charity events but these all ensured we were more productive as a result.
It was right in the heart of the financial district so most things were expecnsive, but deals could be found.
It was dependent on hpw much you are willing to spend, but it was great that I got on well with the people from work and it was good to have drinks with them on weekends.
A lot(!!!) and a wide range as well,
