The Role
The KPMG one year business placement was a good opportunity to meet like minded students and gain an insight into the life of an auditor. I enjoyed my placement throughout as it provided a unique blend of on the job learning and interactive courses.
From day one I felt valued by other members of the audit team instantly and although I worked on small parts of the audit my contribution was greatly appreciated by the seniors whom were very encouraging.
If I had any issues we were advised to speak to our counselling manager. She was very helpful especially when I needed to ask for time off. In addition, I found the graduates to be extremely willing to help and explain challenging aspects of my work.
Audit varies due to the seasons and whether you are working on a client whose year end has just passed. To put it nicely, there were days where the 9-5 didn't apply. However, it was all part of the job.
I was given an appropriate level of responsibility for me abilities. I did find that if I asked for more responsibility and to be challenged, my desires were always reciprocated.
Working in a team all the time definitely helped me to become more expressive in my communication. I also felt that due to the nature of the work and communicating with clients I felt more confident.
The Company
The office is full of diverse individuals, most of whom, especially those on my floor, were great to talk to and made work that little bit easier.
Everything was well communicated in advance. There was the odd occasion where I was given short notice to work in an area outside of London but that did not happen frequently.
The company really invested in my training and this was much appreciated as it gave me a good insight as to what permanent employment would be like in the firm.

I hope to be considered for a graduate scheme as I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
The Culture
There was the occasional social however it was difficult as many of the students were based outside London so trying to find a convenient time and location for all proved difficult.
This greatly depended on which engagements you were assigned to. Working predominantly in London was expensive but working on away jobs, living expenses were subsidised by the firm.
I would definitely recommend nights out in London, not for the faint hearted!
KPMG has a number of social activities, I took part in my teams football league.
