The Role
Everyone was very friendly at the Pwc Insight Academy, whilst the work was both stimulating and exciting. There was nether a dull moment, particularly when I ended up chatting with the Human Resources department into the early hours of the mornings!
Everyone really made an effort to have a conversation with you whilst nobody made it seem like it was a competition to get the internship. Nobody made you feel out of place.
There was never a moment when I didn't know what I was doing. If I became stuck on a task, there was always someone around to give guidance and support.
There were a few moments when there was little to be done, however this was right at the end of the Academy when all work had been done and everyone was waiting to give the presentations. Besides this, I was very busy throughout the Insight Academy . All three days seemed like one massive day!
If you wanted to, you could easily become the team leader of the task set. The amount of responsibility depended on how much you wanted to put it. It must be said though that most people tried to be the team leader, which did lead to a few disagreements. All in all though there was the perfect balance of responsibility to taking a step back when required.
The skills developed such as presentation giving, numerical and analytical are instrumental in my degree. In particular, the networking opportunities on offer will really help in maintaining great connections within PwC.
The Company
Everyone was generally keen to get started on the different tasks, however there were a couple of times when people took a step back from preceedings, which tended to leave a more negative atmosphere in the room. Mostly though due to the friendly nature of each other to get to know one another, there was a very positive vibe around the place.
It was generally very well organised in terms of both work and leisure activities. At times however, there were moments when people did not really know what to do with themselves, but this generally happened right at the end when people were waiting for the presentations to be given.
There was a great amount of personal feedback for each task, which I have never really experienced in other such insight academies or even at university. When speaking to a PwC representative on the telephone, she went into a lot of detail about my strengths and weaknesses. I couldn't really ask for more!

Working from home
The chilled nature amongst the staff members as well as like-minded peers makes PwC a great company to work for. In addition, with the relatively safe job security compared to similar lines of business, such as working in a bank, working for the likes of PwC definitely appeals to me.
The Culture
Not only were there different networking opportunities/events on offer on both evenings but my fellow placement students are all very like-minded and into the same things I am into. I can't wait until my summer internship when we all meet up again!
As the Academy was in the middle of nowhere (well, Lewisham...) we did not travel out of the academy headquarters. However, with everything included and with something on all the time we did not feel like we had to travel elsewhere. As everything was therefore included in the academy, I cannot fault the cost of living or socialising in the area.
Considering we were staying in an academy with no nightclubs or bars around, PwC did a fantastic job of putting something on each night to keep us all entertained. When I ended up chatting to fellow students and Human Resources until the early hours of the morning, it was felt that we didn't actually need a nightclub or bar to keep us entertained.
There was an on-sight gym if one was bothered to do some exercise. In general, there was no need to get involved in outside activities as everyone was generally far too tired from the day's events to do anything outside of work.
