The Role
As this was my first introduction into the world of accountancy I didn't know what to expect! Fortunately this day broke down some of the barriers and although it was a pretty exhausting day it was extremely worth it.
The facilitators did a great job of making us feel welcome despite us only being there for a day! I also got to speak to a couple of graduates whom were really friendly and gave an honest opinion of their experience.
The supervisors were always helpful and also gave us feedback on our strengths at the end of the tasks.
It was one full day of activities which is not for the faint of heart.
There were group exercises where I assumed responsibility as the group leader but other than this, there was not any other opportunities to take up responsibility.
Prior to this I hadn't had too much experience in team exercises. I learnt my role within a team and also learnt which areas I needed to improve in.
The Company
The London office is fantastic and although we didn't get to see it all we got a good vibe from it.
The day was structured really well with sufficient time but like most activities, the case study took up quite a large chunk of time but still did not feel sufficient enough.
The firm invested their resources whom were "strength spotters" and gave us constructive feedback which I feel is a great investment.
They encouragde you to apply for the internship, which I then applied for getting to the final stage.
The Culture
As we were only there for one day this wasn't enough time to get to mingle with everyone.
The event was in their London office which I can imagine the surrounding area must be extremely costly to live.
As this was only a one day insight I did not get to sample the nightlife.
Although strictly speaking not Ernst & Young's fault here, I feel that the day could be further enhanced by a dinner and drinks event in the evening which would also contribute to developing our networking skills.
