The Role
Given varied work of real importance to the company. Found it both interesting and stimulating with most of the jobs revolving around mechanical design
Great working atmosphere, appreciated for the effort put in
Always someone on hand to point you in the right direction
Had quiet periods, but when on a major job worked flat out to complete it - additional few hours a week
Took ownership of a number of projects, and responsible for their quality.
Design based role, so useful for project work, but not relevant to the theoretical nature to a lot of my uni modules. General workplace skills, time and project management all very useful though.
The Company
Social atmosphere
initial 2 week induction from previous student, and additional training and support from colleagues along the way.
Participated in a number of training sessions, including a week long drafting course
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
Often recruiting young engineers.
The Culture
Lots of social events, weekly social and sporting occasions.
About normal for the midlands.
Lived in a small town with 1 main bar/club. Pubs were agreeable.
Larger towns and cities close by. Many local sports clubs.
